3.7 Most important innovation areas: the perspective from science Table 3.2 shows in which sports our respondents with a science background were active. We asked the experts what the two most important innovations within their science field(s) were. They then categorized these innovations according to the sports that the innovation was applied to (multiple answers possible). The table shows, for example, that of all innovations mentioned by biomechanical experts, 24 percent were applied in cycling. The main findings from this analysis are: • athletics and cycling are the sports in which most innovation takes place; • biomechanical innovations occur in all sports. 3 RESULTS 30 Pagina 29
