Besides Oranje Zwart and Reading, HGC and Club de Campo also make the fi nal four. Just like Oranje Zwart, Campo from Madrid is a newcomer to the EHL and has performed remarkably well throughout the tournament. The Spaniards even reach the fi nal, where they face HGC. HGC’s placement in the fi nal can be considered quite a surprise anyway, because as the vice-champion of the fi rst EHL-edition this team experienced a disastrous season. This explains why Oranje Zwart is by far the favourite. But, bolstered by the support of their fanatical followers – the fi nal four takes place at HGC – the team from Wassenaar fi ghts to win the semi-fi nals with 3-0. The fi nal is a very special game for Eric-Jan Iding, the Dutchman playing for Club de Campo. Before he moved to Spain, he had played for HGC for years. The public had shown up in droves but they were witnesses to a rather boring fi nal day. Luckily for the mainly Dutch fans the winner was HGC, which triggered an unbelievable celebration in Wassenaar. Jeroen Delmee lets the party go on without him. The former record international and two-time Olympic champion loses the match with Oranje Zwart as well as the bronze in his last-ever game as an active hockey player. • 21 HGC wins the EHL cup against Club de Campo in front of its own Audience.
