Therapie bij een acute calciumpyrofosfaat-kristal artritis bestaat uit rust, ijsapplicatie, aspiratie van synoviale vloeistof met achterlaten van een intra-articulair glucocorticosteroïd-depot en eventueel colchicine. 6. Bij asymptomatisch aanwezige chondrocalcinose is geen behandeling nodig en kan het sporten gecontinueerd worden; in andere gevallen kan gesport worden op geleide van de klachten met relatief weinig belastende bewegingsvormen voor de betreffende gewrichten.
