19 The Belgians are joined by Rotterdam (who had banished Amsterdam from the tournament one round earlier), Bloemendaal, and once again by UHC. Rotterdam – again host of the fi nal four – is once more up against an opponent from the Netherlands and once again things go wrong. Bloemendaal eliminates Rotterdam in the semi-fi nals. Leuven soldiers through a fl awless group phase and almost succeeds in achieving the perfect fairy tale ending against defending champion UHC, but the Germans are just a bit too strong and it ends with 3-1. Edition Two of the Euro Hockey League thus provides fans with a dream fi nal between UHC and Bloemendaal. The dream comes true: the game turns out to be a brilliant show. Bloemendaal quickly takes a 5-1 lead and seems to have bagged it, but the Germans prove once again that the game is not over until the referee blows his whistle to signal the end. UHC pulls it together and comes back with 5-2, 5-3, 5-4, and… it stays that way. Bloemendaal fi ghts tooth and nail and is able to hold its own. Shortly after becoming the national champions they are also victorious in landing the highest European club prize. 20 09 20 10 Rookies seldom have a chance at winning gold, except if they are named Rot-Weiss Köln and make their fi rst appearance in the third EHL-edition. This German star-ensemble, including the brothers and Olympic champions Philipp and Christopher Zeller, succeeds in immediately making history in its fi rst game. The Italian team Bra is swept from the playing fi eld with no less than a score of 11-1. For the fi rst time a double-digit score was reached in an EHL-duel. The team from Cologne’s role as favourites is immediately reconfi rmed. The For the second time UHC is victorious, and holds up the EHL cup.
